COINAGE (DIMENSIONS AND DESIGNS) ORDER, 1928.

COINAGE (DIMENSIONS AND DESIGNS) ORDER, 1928.


WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (4) of section 2 of the Coinage Act, 1926 , (No. 14 of 1926) that the Minister for Finance may by Order prescribe the dimensions and design of the several denominations of coins to be issued under that Act :

NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the said sub-section (4) of section 2 of the said Act and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby makes the following Order, that is to say :—

1. This Order may, for all purposes, be cited as the Coinage (Dimensions and Designs) Order, 1928.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 , (No. 46 of 1923) applies to the interpretation of this Order in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. The dimensions of the several denominations of the coins to be issued under the Coinage Act, 1926 , shall be the dimensions set forth in Schedule I to this Order.

4. Every coin to be issued under the Coinage Act, 1926 , shall have for the obverse impression a Harp, together with the inscription " SAORSTÁT ÉIREANN " and the date of the year. The reverse impression of the several denominations of the coins to be issued under the Coinage Act, 1926 , shall be as set forth in Schedule II to this Order.

5. Both the obverse and the reverse impression of every coin to be issued under the Coinage Act, 1926 , shall include a beading round the field of the coin.

6. Every half-crown, florin and shilling to be issued under the Coinage Act, 1926 , shall have a graining upon the edge, and every sixpence, threepence, penny, halfpenny and farthing to be so issued shall have a plain edge.

7. Given under the Official Seal of the Minister for Finance this fifth day of December, 1928.

Penny

A Hen and chickens, with the inscription

"PINGIN" and "1d."

Halfpenny

A Sow and litter, with the inscription

"LEATH PHINGIN" and "½d."

Farthing

A Woodcock, with the inscription

"FEOIRLING" and " ¼d."
