BY-LAW No. 398 No. 171 or DROGHEDA DISTRICT

SIZE LIMIT--SALMON AND TROUT


I, FIONÁN O LOÍNGSIGH, Minister for Lands and Fisheries, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in me by the Fisheries Act, 1925 , and of every other power enabling me in this behalf, do MAKE AND ORDAIN THE FOLLOWING BY-LAW :--

(1) It is prohibited to take and kill by any means whatsoever in any of the fresh waters of the No. 171 or Drogheda District any fish of the salmon or trout kind of less than eight inches in length, measured in a straight line from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail, or to have in possession in or on or near the banks of the said fresh waters any such fish of less than the said length.

(2) Any such fish which may be taken must be returned alive to the water forthwith.

(3) The By-law dated the 18th December, 1908, whereby it was prohibited to take and kill from the said waters any such fish of less size than seven inches is hereby revoked.

(4) Each and every person offending against this By-law shall forfeit and pay for each offence a sum not exceeding five pounds.

(5) This By-law shall not apply to the taking or possession of fish under authority given in accordance with Section 32 of the Fisheries Act, 1925 , nor to the possession of fish in any hatchery or private pond.

(6) The Interpretation Act, 1923 , applies to the interpretation of this By-law in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

(7) This By-law may be cited for all purposes as the Drogheda District By-law No. 398, 1929.

NOTE:--Under the provisions of the Fisheries Act, 1925 , this By-Law will come into operation on the twenty-eighth day after the above date.
