SHOPS (FORM OF HALF-HOLIDAY NOTICE) REGULATIONS, 1938.

SHOPS (FORM OF HALF-HOLIDAY NOTICE) REGULATIONS, 1938.

WHEREAS by virtue of the Shops (Hours of Trading) Act, 1938 (Commencement) Order, 1938 (Statutory Rules and Orders No. 81 of 1938), the Shops (Hours of Trading) Act, 1938 (No. 3 of 1938), will come into operation on the 16th day of May, 1938 :

AND WHEREAS it is enacted by section 10 of the said Act that the Minister for Industry and Commerce may make regulations in relation to any matter or thing referred to in the said Act as prescribed or to be prescribed, and these regulations relate to a matter referred to in sub-section (1) of section 18 of the said Act as prescribed :

AND WHEREAS the making of these regulations before the coming into operation of the said Act is necessary to enable the said section 18 to have full force and effect immediately upon its coming into operation :

NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Industry and Commerce in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Shops (Hours of Trading) Act, 1938 (No. 3 of 1938), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby makes the following regulations, that is to say :—

1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Shops (Form of Half-holiday Notice) Regulations, 1938.

(2) These Regulations shall come into force on the 16th day of May, 1938.

2. —The half-holiday notice referred to in sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Shops (Hours of Trading) Act, 1938 (No. 3 of 1938), shall be in the Form set out in the Schedule hereto, and (other than the notes thereto) shall be in letters of not less than two inches in height.

SCHEDULE

SHOPS (HOURS OF TRADING) ACT, 1938 .

NOTICE OF WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY UNDER SUB-SECTION (1) OF SECTION 18.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THIS SHOP WILL CLOSE NOT LATER THAN THE HOUR OF 1 P.M. ON............................................................ ................................................ IN EACH WEEK (a) FOR ALL BUSINESS, (b) FOR ALL BUSINESS, OTHER THAN THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTED BUSINESSES (c) ............................................................ ............................................................ ......

NOTE :

Strike out (a) or (b). If (a) is struck out the business for which the shop remains open should be specified at (c).

A shop (other than a shop to which Section 19 of the Act does not apply by virtue of sub-section (4) of the said Section) may remain open on the weekly half-holiday only for the purposes of an excepted business, i.e. a business specified in the Second Schedule to the Act.

The Notice must be displayed in a prominent place in the shop.
