THE STATISTICS (AGRICULTURAL RETURNS) ORDER, 1944.

THE STATISTICS (AGRICULTURAL RETURNS) ORDER, 1944.

THE STATISTICS (AGRICULTURAL RETURNS) ORDER, 1944, MADE BY THE MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE UNDER SUB-SECTION (1) OF SECTION 16 of THE STATISTICS ACT, 1926 .

The Minister for Industry and Commerce in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sub-section (1) of Section 16 of the Statistics Act, 1926 (No. 12 of 1926), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Statistics (Agricultural Returns) Order, 1944.

2. In this Order

the expression " agricultural land " includes forest land, bog land, land used as grazing, meadow or pasture land, or orchard, and land used wholly or mainly for the purpose of the trade or business of a market gardener, nurseryman or horticulturist or for the purpose of breeding or keeping poultry ;

the expression " occupier " includes any person who is, at the date on which the information is required, entitled to use, for his own benefit, any land as agricultural land ;

the expression " officer of statistics " means a member of the Gárda Síochána who is an officer of statistics under the Statistics Act, 1926 .

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

4. Statistics (in this Order referred to as the statistics) in relation to agricultural land shall be collected in the year 1944 of the several matters set out in the columns at the head of Forms A and B in the Schedule hereto (a).

5. The statistics shall be collected by officers of statistics.

6. The person by whom any information is to be given in relation to any agricultural land for the purpose of the statistics to be collected under this Order shall be the occupier of such agricultural land or, if such land is managed by another person, that other person.

(a) The Schedule consists of Form A (Return of Tillage and Distribution of Land, 1944) and Form B (Return of Live Stock, 1944) to be used in the collection of the statistics.

The following is a description of the headings in the Forms A and B for which the statistics are to be collected.

Form A

Valuation ; Area of Holding ; Extent under Corn, Root and Green Crops, Flax, Fruit, Hay, Pasture, Other Land ; Males engaged in Farm Work ; Special Inquiries.

Form B

Area of Holding ; Numbers of Horses, Mules, Asses, Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Goats, Poultry ; Bee-keeping ; Sales of Farm Produce.
