BACON (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1947.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939), as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :—

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Bacon (Maximum Prices) Order, 1947.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 2nd day of August, 1947.

2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.

3. In this Order—

the word " bacon " includes any part of the carcase of a pig (excluding the offals, feet and head) which has been cured in any way, but does not include pickled pork ;

the expression " wholesale merchant " means a person who sells bacon only to a person buying it for the purposes of resale ;

the expression " retail merchant " means a person who sells bacon to any person buying it otherwise than for the purposes of resale.

4. No person shall sell to a wholesale merchant or a retail merchant bacon of any description mentioned in the second column of the First Schedule hereto at a price exceeding a price (including the cost of delivery to the railway station nearest to the purchaser's premises) calculated at the rate mentioned in the third or fourth column (whichever is appropriate) of the said Schedule opposite the mention of bacon of that description except that in the case of smoked bacon the price calculated by reference to the said schedule may be increased by not more than fourteen shillings per hundredweight.

5. No person shall sell by retail bacon of any description mentioned in the second column of the Second Schedule hereto at a price exceeding a price calculated at the rate mentioned in the third column of the said Schedule opposite the mention of bacon of that description except that :—

(1) in the case of smoked bacon, except cooked ham, the rates shown at Part I of the said Schedule may be increased by not more than 1¾d. per lb.

(2) in the case of smoked bacon, except cooked ham, the rates shown at Part II of the said Schedule may be increased by not more than 2d. per lb.
