TEA (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1949.

TEA (MAXIMUM PRICES) ORDER, 1949.

I, DANIEL MORRISSEY, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942) (which Orders are continued in force by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946) as amended by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (Continuance) Act, 1948 (No. 18 of 1948)) and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :--

1. (i) This Order may be cited as the Tea (Maximum Prices) Order, 1949.

(ii) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1949.

2. References in this Order to selling shall be construed as including references to agreeing or offering to sell or to inviting an offer to buy.

3. No person shall sell tea by wholesale at a price exceeding a price calculated at whichever of the following rates is appropriate :--

(a) in the case of tea authorised to be purchased in accordance with the provisions of the Tea Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 223 of 1949 ) on foot of a tea permit or a coupon certificate

2/1½d. per lb.

(b) in the case of China tea

5/11½d. per lb.

(c) in any other case

4/11½d. per lb.

4. No person shall sell tea by retail at a price exceeding a price calculated at whichever of the following rates is appropriate :--

(a) in the case of tea authorised to be purchased in accordance with the provisions of the Tea Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 223 of 1949 ) on foot of a tea permit or a tea registration page

2/8d. per lb.

(b) in the case of China tea

6/6d. per lb.

(c) in the other case

5/6d. per lb.

5. The Tea (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1947 ( S. R. & O. No. 343 of 1947 ), the Tea (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1947 (Amendment) (No. 1) Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 177 of 1948 ), the Tea (Maximum Prices) (No. 2) Order, 1947 (Amendment) (No. 4) Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1948 ) and the Tea (Maximum Prices (No. 2) Order, 1947 (Amendment) (No. 5) Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 320 of 1948 ), are hereby revoked.
