SCHOOL ATTENDANCE COMMITTEES ORDER, 1954.

I, RISTEÁRD UA MAOLCHATHA, Minister for Education, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 10 of the School Attendance Act, 1926 (No. 17 of 1926), as amended by section 89 of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930 (No. 27 of 1930), and section 3 of the Local Elections Act, 1943 (No. 15 of 1953), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the School Attendance Committees Order, 1954.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. In this Order--

" the Minister " means the Minister for Education ;

" election year " means a year being the year 1955 or any fifth successive year thereafter.

4. (1) This Article shall have effect in relation to the time and mode of appointment of members of the school attendance committee for a school attendance area co-terminous with or included in the county borough of Dublin, the county borough of Cork, the county borough of Waterford or the borough of Dún Laoghaire.

(2) The council of each borough shall, at the quarterly meeting of the council held last before the 31st day of October of every election year, elect such number of members of the school attendance committee as the council is entitled so to elect and the election shall be part of the first business to be transacted at that quarterly meeting.

(3) The Town Clerk shall, immediately after the election, send to the Minister the names, addresses and descriptions of the persons elected.

(4) The Minister shall, in every election year before the 31st day of December in that year, nominate five persons to be members of the school attendance committee.

5. The term of office of every member elected or nominated under this Order shall commence on the 1st day of January next following his election or nomination.

6. The following orders are hereby revoked : the Dublin City School Attendance Committees Order, 1930 ( S. R. & O. No. 97 of 1930 ), the Cork City School Attendance Committee Order, 1930 ( S. R. & O. No. 69 of 1930 ), the Waterford City School Attendance Committees Order, 1931 ( S. R. & O. No. 57 of 1931 ), the Dún Laoghaire Borough School Attendance Committees Order, 1930 ( S. R. & O. No. 98 of 1930 ).
