CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA NO. 13) (WOVEN WOOLLEN AND SYNTHETIC AND ARTIFICIAL FABRICS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1954.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA NO. 13) (WOVEN WOOLLEN AND SYNTHETIC AND ARTIFICIAL FABRICS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1954.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by the Control of Imports Acts, 1934 and 1937, and every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :--

1.--(1) This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 13) (Woven Woollen and Synthetic and Artificial Fabrics) (Amendment) Order, 1954.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 2nd day of November, 1954.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Control of Imports (Quota No. 13) Order, 1935 ( S. R. & O. No. 59 of 1935 ), as amended, is hereby further amended by the substitution of the following for the Schedule thereto :

SCHEDULE.

PART I.

ARTICLES THE IMPORTATION OF WHICH IS PROHIBITED BY THIS ORDER.

Woven fabrics (other than floor coverings) which are not less than twelve inches in width and which--

(i) are made wholly or partly of wool or worsted, and are not less than four and one-half ounces in weight per square yard ; or

(ii) are made wholly or partly of synthetic or artificial textile and are not less than four and one-half ounces nor more than eight ounces in weight per square yard and are suitable for use in the manufacture of women's dresses or women's or men's suits (other than as linings therefor) ; or

(iii) are made wholly or partly of synthetic or artificial textile and exceed eight ounces in weight per square yard.

PART II.

ARTICLES EXCEPTED FROM THE PROHIBITION OF IMPORTATION EFFECTED BY THIS ORDER.

Woven fabrics in respect of which it is shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners that such goods--

(a) are tickens ; or

(b) are not less than forty-five inches in width and are of a type ordinarily used in the manufacture of bedsheets ; or

(c) are terry towelling ; or

(d) are damask tabling ; or

(e) are cloths which contain a fancy weave ; or

(f) are brocade (including corset brocade), or tapestry cloth ; or

(g) are corset coutil ; or

(h) are motor tyre fabric ; or

(i) are woven fabrics imported in the piece, exceeding one shilling and sixpence per square yard in value and not exceeding eighteen inches in width which have two selvedges and which are made of artificial silk or both silk and artificial silk or of a combination of silk or artificial silk or both silk and artificial silk together with cotton ; or

(j) are woven fabrics which are imported in the piece and contain not less than forty per cent. by weight of silk and are of a value not exceeding one shilling and sixpence per square yard ; or

(k) are woven fabrics which are imported in the piece and contain not less than forty per cent. by weight of artificial silk or of silk and artificial silk and are of a value not exceeding one shilling and three-pence per square yard ; or

(l) are not moquette or plush which exceeds eight ounces but does not exceed twenty-four ounces in weight per square yard, and

(i) are printed or painted fabrics ; or

(ii) are velvet, velveteen, corduroy or other cut or uncut pile fabric, or fur fabric (other than bouclé fabric) ; or

(iii) are lamé cloth or other cloth containing metal yarn, or are chenille cloth or moiré fabric, or are embroidered, quilted, Jacquard-blistered or dobby-blistered fabric ; or

(iv) consist of two or more fabrics which have been assembled face to face by rubber or other adhesive ; or

(v) are treated fabrics which have been coated, impregnated or otherwise operated upon, but excluding any fabrics which--

(I) are suitable for use in the manufacture of men's or women's outer garments and which have been impregnated and rendered shower-proof ; or

(II) are of the nature of linings or interlinings, and are proofed ; or

(III) are of the nature of tarpaulin fabrics ; or

(IV) have been subjected only to a textile finishing process or treatment ; or

(m) are woven fabrics imported in the piece containing more than sixty per cent. by weight of linen.

For the purposes of this Schedule " synthetic or artificial textile " means a synthetic textile or an artificial textile or any mixture of synthetic textiles or of artificial textiles or of both synthetic and artificial textiles.

4. The Orders set out in the Schedule are hereby revoked to the extent mentioned in the third column of that Schedule.
