CIVIL SERVICE (REMUNERATION) REGULATIONS, 1956. |
||
I, GERARD SWEETMAN, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of section 9 of the Civil Service Regulation Act, 1924 (No. 5 of 1924), hereby make the following regulations : |
||
1.--(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1956. |
||
(2) The Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1947 to 1955, and these Regulations may be cited as the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1947 to 1956. |
||
(3) These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into force, and shall have effect as on and from, the 1st day of November, 1955. |
||
2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations. |
||
3.--(1) The Civil Service (Remuneration) (No. 2) Regulations, 1951 ( S.I. No. 288 of 1951 ), shall have effect as if-- |
||
(i) " 37½ per cent. " were substituted for " 27½ per cent. " (inserted by the Regulations of 1953) and " £250 " were substituted for " £200 " in paragraph (a) of the definition of the expression " the prescribed percentages " contained in paragraph (1) of Regulation 5, |
||
(ii) " 22½ per cent. " were substituted for " 15 per cent. " (inserted by the Regulations of 1953) and " £250 " were substituted for " £200 " in paragraph (b) of that definition, |
||
(iii) " 17½ per cent. " were substituted for " 10 per cent." (inserted by the Regulations of 1953) in paragraph (c) of that definition, |
||
(iv) " £250 " were substituted for " £200 " and " £4 15s. 10d. " were substituted for " £3 16s. 8d. " in subparagraph (a) of paragraph (2) of Regulation 5, |
||
(v) " the Civil Service (Remuneration) (No. 2) Regulations, 1951, as amended by the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1956 " were substituted for " the Civil Service (Remuneration) (No. 2) Regulations, 1951, as amended by the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1953 " (inserted by the Regulations of 1953) in paragraph (1), paragraph (2) and paragraph (3) of Regulation 13, and |
||
(vi) the reference in paragraph (4) of Regulation 13 to paragraph (1), (2) or (3) of that Regulation were a reference to the said paragraph (1), (2) or (3) as amended by this Regulation. |
||
(2) Remuneration which has been substituted under subsection (3) of section 2 of the Ministers and Secretaries Act, 1924 (No. 16 of 1924), for remuneration specified in any of the Schedules to the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1951 ( S.I. No. 6 of 1951 ), shall be increased in like manner as in the case of remuneration with respect to which paragraph (1) of this Regulation applies. |

(3) In this Regulation " the Regulations of 1953 " means the Civil Service (Remuneration) Regulations, 1953 ( S.I. No. 250 of 1953 ). |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
These regulations relate to a general revision of the pay of non-industrial civil servants with effect from 1st November, 1955. Prior to that date such pay had included the following percentage additions : |
||
27½% on the first £200 ; |
||
15% on the portion exceeding £200 but not exceeding £965 ; |
||
10% on the portion exceeding £965. |
||
In the revision the following percentage additions were substituted : |
||
37½% on the first £250 ; |
||
22½% on the portion exceeding £250 but not exceeding £965 ; |
||
17½% on the portion exceeding £965. |
