WEIGHTS AND MEASURES (STAMPS) REGULATIONS, 1958. |

I, SÉAN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 13 of the Weights and Measures Act, 1928 (No. 3 of 1928), hereby make the following regulations :-- |
||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Weights and Measures (Stamps) Regulations, 1958. |
||
(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1959. |
||
2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations. |
||
3. In these Regulations-- |
||
" the Minister " means the Minister for Industry and Commerce ; |
||
" inspector " means an inspector or an ex-officio inspector of weights and measures and includes a special inspector ; |
||
" licensed bottle factory " means a factory in respect of which a licence has been issued under section 7 of the Weights and Measures Act, 1928 (No. 3 of 1928). |
||
4. Every stamp used for the verification by the Minister of local or other standards shall be of the following design, the figures therein indicating the year of stamping : |

5. The form and design of the stamp of verification to be used by an inspector shall be the following, the upper figures therein corresponding to the number of the inspector's area and the lower figures indicating the year of stamping : |
||
6. (1) The stamp of verification to be used at a licensed bottle factory shall be of the form and design prescribed for the purposes or Regulation 5 of these Regulations, save that it shall not be obligatory to include the figures indicating the year of stamping. |
||
(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1) of this Regulation, the stamp of verification used at a licensed bottle factory in pursuance of Regulation 6 of the Weights and Measures (Stamps) Regulations, 1928 (S. R. & O. No. 72 of 1928), may continue to be used at such factory. |
||
7. The stamp to be used for obliteration of stamps shall have the following design, the figures corresponding to the number of the inspector's area : |

8. The material of which stamps are made under these Regulations shall be hard steel or such other material as may be approved by the Minister. |
||
9. The Weights and Measures (Stamps) Regulations, 1928 (S. R. & O. No. 72 of 1928), are hereby revoked. |
||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
These Regulations alter the designs of stamps of verification to be impressed upon weights, measures, weighing instruments and measuring instruments as from 1st January, 1959. |
