CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (LADIES CLOTHES AND HOUSEHOLD PIECE GOODS) (EXCLUSION) REGULATIONS, 1964.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (LADIES CLOTHES AND HOUSEHOLD PIECE GOODS) (EXCLUSION) REGULATIONS, 1964.

I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 29 and 52 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 (No. 2 of 1936), and after consultation with representatives of employers interested in the form of industrial work specified in the Schedule hereto and with representatives of workers so interested, hereby make the following regulations:--

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Conditions of Employment (Ladies Clothes and Household Piece Goods) (Exclusion) Regulations, 1964.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. The form of industrial work specified in the Schedule to these Regulations is hereby declared to be excluded industrial work for the purpose of section 46 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 (No. 2 of 1936), and the following provisions shall have effect in respect thereof:

(a) no woman shall be employed to do any such work at any time between the hour of 11 p.m. on any day and the hour of 7 a.m. on the following day;

(b) no woman shall be employed on any day until after the expiration of eleven hours from the time at which she ceased to do industrial work on the previous day.

4. The form of industrial work specified in the Schedule to these Regulations is hereby declared to be excluded industrial work for the purpose of section 47 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 , and the following provisions shall have effect in respect thereof:

(a) no young person shall be employed to do any such work at any time between the hour of 10 p.m. on any day and the hour of 6 a.m. on the following day;

(b) no young person shall be employed on any day until after the expiration of eleven hours from the time at which such person ceased to do industrial work on the previous day.

The making and finishing of ladies clothes and household piece goods.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 provides that women may be employed in industrial work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. only and young persons between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. only.

The purpose of these regulations is to permit the employment of women and young persons on shift work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., and 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. respectively in the making and finishing of ladies clothes and household piece goods.
