DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT, 1934, ORDER, 1969. |

The Government in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 17 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1934 (No. 1 of 1934), it appearing to them that the drugs specified in the Schedule to this Order are, or are likely, if improperly used, to be productive of ill-effects substantially of the same character or nature as those produced by morphine or cocaine, hereby order as follows :-- |

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1934 , Order, 1969. |
||
(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1969. |
||
2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order. |
||
3. The drugs specified in the Schedule to this Order shall be drugs to which Part IV of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1934 (No. 1 of 1934), applies. |
||
4. The Dangerous Drugs Act, 1934 (Application of Part IV to Hydrochloride of 1-Methyl-4-Phonylpiperidine-4-Carboxylic Acid Ethyl Ester) Order, 1946 ( S. R. & O. No. 171 of 1946 ), is hereby revoked. |
||

PART II. |
||
The salts of any drug specified in Part I of this Schedule. |
||
Any preparation, admixture, extract or other substance containing any proportion of any one or more of the drugs specified in the said Part I other than preparations of diphenoxylate containing not more than 2.5 milligrammes of diphenoxylate calculated as base and not less than 25 microgrammes of atropine sulphate per dosage unit. |
||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This Order, which comes into operation on the 1st August, 1969, declares that the drugs specified in the Schedule thereto are drugs to which Part IV of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1934 , applies. |
||
The effect of the Order is to make it unlawful to import or export any of these drugs without a permit issued by the Minister for Health. |
||
The Order also has the effect of bringing the manufacture, sale, possession and distribution of these drugs within the controls and restrictions imposed by the Dangerous Drugs (Medicinal Opium, Tincture of Indian Hemp, Morphine, Cocaine, etc.), Regulations, 1937 (S.R. and O. 1937 No. 65). |

The Order revokes S. R. & O. No. 171 of 1946 which related to a drug which is included in the Schedule to this Order as being a salt of Pethidine. |
