EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The Social Welfare Act, 1973 , makes provision, inter alia, for payment of a deserted wife's benefit and a social assistance allowance for unmarried mothers. Article 6 of the Social Welfare (Prescribed Relative) Regulations, 1972, which specifies the conditions to be fulfilled to enable an increase in pension to be paid to an incapacitated pensioner over 69 years of age in respect of a prescribed relative who is providing the pensioner with full-time care and attention, lists certain benefits, pensions allowances and assistance receipt of which by the relative debars the pensioner from entitlement to a prescribed relative allowance. The effect of this Regulation is to add the new deserted wife's benefit and the social assistance allowance for unmarried mothers (where the rate of the latter would be equal to or greater than the prescribed relative allowance) to that list. |
