S.I. No. 316/1989:

FOREIGN PARCEL POST AMENDMENT (No. 23) SCHEME 1989.

FOREIGN PARCEL POST AMENDMENT (No. 23) SCHEME 1989.

AN POST, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 70 of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 (No. 24 of 1983), and with the consent of the Minister for Communications, hereby makes the following Scheme:

1. (i) This Scheme may be cited as the Foreign Parcel Post Amendment (No. 23) Scheme, 1989.

(ii) This Scheme shall be operative with effect from the 1st day of January, 1988.

2. In this Scheme--

"the Principal Warrant" means the Foreign Parcel Post Warrant, 1953 ( S.I. No. 418 of 1953 ).

"Scheme No. 21" means the Foreign Parcel Post Amendment (No. 21) Scheme, 1986 ( S.I. No. 94 of 1986 ).

3. Regulation 12 of the Principal Warrant is amended by the substitution of the following text:

"12. In respect of every incoming parcel from outside the European Community where duty is payable on the contents under the Customs Acts, there shall be charged and paid the Customs Clearance fee specified in the First Schedule hereto".

4. The Third Schedule to the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Scheme No. 21) of the entries in the First Schedule to this Scheme.

Customs Clearance Fee:
On each incoming parcel from outside the European Community where duty is payable:

£1.10

Outgoing Express Delivery Fee: 55p
Advice of Delivery Fee on outgoing insured parcel: 32p

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Scheme applies to the Foreign Parcel Post service and is operative from 1st January, 1988. It recognises the abolition of Post Office Customs clearance charges on dutiable parcels from EC countries pursuant to EC Council Regulation No. 1797/86.
