The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 and II (as amended by section 12 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996)) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations: |

Citation and construction | ||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) (Amendment) (Defence Forces) Regulations, 1997. |
||
(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 ( S.I. No. 312 of 1996 ) shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to 1997. |

Commencement | ||
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 6th day of April, 1997. |
||
Non-commissioned army officer's and enlisted personnel of Defence Forces | ||
3. The Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 are hereby amended by the substitution in article 87(2) (a) (i) for "5.4 per cent." of "4.4 per cent.". |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
These Regulations provide for the reduction of the modified social insurance rate applying to non- and enlisted personnel in the Defence forces. The current rate of 5.4% is being reduced to 4.4% with effect from 6th of April 1997. |
