I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 39 and 63 of the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (No. 8 of 1988) hereby make the following Regulations: |
||||||||
1. (a) These Regulations may be cited as the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Abattoirs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999. |
||||||||
(b) The collective citation “the Abbattoirs Act, 1988 (Abattoirs) Regulations, 1989 to 1999” shall include these Regulations. |
||||||||
(c) The Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Abbattoirs) Regulations, 1989 to 1999 shall be construed together as one. |
||||||||
2. These Regulations shall come into force on the 1st day of November, 1999. |
||||||||
3. The Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Abattoirs) Regulations, 1989 ( S.I. No. 152 of 1989 ) are hereby amended by |
||||||||
(a) the substitution in Regulation 3(1) as follows |
||||||||
“ “ear-tag” has the meaning assigned to it under the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Veterinary Examination) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999 ( S.I. No. 327 of 1999 ),” |
||||||||
“identity card” has the meaning assigned to it under the Abattoirs Act, 1988 (Veterinary Examination) (Amendment) Regulations, 1999 ( S.I. No. 327 of 1999 ),” |
||||||||
(b) the substitution of Regulation 59(1) as follows |
||||||||
“59. (1) No cattle shall be accepted for slaughter by an abattoir unless the animal has affixed to its ear an ear-tag and is accompanied by an identity card in relation to the identification of the animal.” |

These Regulations update the definitions of “ear-tag” and “identify card” and provide that all animals accepted for slaughter must have an ear-tag and identity card. |
