STATISTICS (CENSUS OF AGRICULTURE) ORDER, 2000

I, SÉAMUS BRENNAN, Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 25(1) of the Statistics Act, 1993 (No. 21 of 1993) , and the Statistics (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 327 of 1997 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Statistics (Census of Agriculture) Order, 2000.

2. This Order shall come into operation on 1 June, 2000.

3. This Order applies to undertakings producing agricultural products including--

(a) horticultural and other crops,

(b) cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and other livestock.

4. The Central Statistics Office shall be provided with the information specified in Article 5.

5. An undertaking to which this Order applies is required to provide the Central Statistics Office with information in relation to its activities, specified in the Schedule to this Order as follows:

(a) in relation to the farm workforce and time spent on farmwork, during the period commencing on 1 June, 1999 and ending on 31 May, 2000,

(b) in relation to use of hired and borrowed machinery, during the period commencing on 1 June, 1999 and ending on 31 May, 2000,

(c) in relation to milk quota, on 31 March, 2000, and

(d) in relation to all other activities in that Schedule, on 1 June, 2000.

SCHEDULE

(a) Location of the headquarters.

(b) Description of agricultural activities carried out.

(c) Particulars of any agricultural activity carried on organically.

(d) Description of non-agricultural activities engaged in from which an income is earned.

(e) The area used for agricultural activities.

(f) Particulars of the areas under various horticultural and other crops.

(g) Analysis of the division of the undertaking for use in various agricultural activities.

(h) Particulars of the types and numbers of livestock.

(i) Particulars of the workforce engaged and time spent on agricultural activities.

(j) Type and numbers of farm machinery owned and hired.

(k) Any other matters which may be relevant to agricultural activities to include management structures, training, any specialised agriculture, fragmentation of the undertaking, milk-quotas, set-aside incentive schemes, environmental practices, use of commonage and rental of lands.

(l) Herd numbers.

(m) Telephone or fax numbers or electronic mail address at which contact can be made.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

The purpose of the instrument is to enforce a statutory collection of statistical information on agriculture which will contribute to the establishment of an information system at European Community level.
