SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATED SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCE) (AMENDMENT) (NO.1) (INCOME DISREGARDS) REGULATIONS, 2001 |

The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 (as amended by section 9 of the No. 27 of 1993 ) and Rule 1 (1) (p) (i) of Part III of the Third Schedule to the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations: |

Citation and construction. |
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Supplementary Welfare Allowance) (Amendment) (No.1) (Income Disregards) Regulations, 2001. |

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Consolidated Supplementary Welfare Allowance) Regulations, 1995 to 2001 shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Supplementary Welfare Allowance) Regulations, 1995 to 2001. |

Rent and mortgage supplement. |
2. The Social Welfare (Consolidated Supplementary Welfare Allowance) Regulations, 1995 ( S.I. No. 382 of 1995 ) are amended by - |

(a) the insertion in article 9 after sub-article (2) of the following: |
||||||
“(3) The higher amount prescribed for the purposes of sub-paragraph (i) of Rule 1(1) (p) of Part III of the Third Schedule to the Principal Act shall be EUR 50.”, and |
||||||
(b) the substitution in article 12 (1) (a) (as amended by article 4 of the Social Welfare (Consolidated Supplementary Welfare Allowance) (Amendment) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 101 of 2001 )) for “£5” of “EUR 10”. |

Commencement. |
3. These Regulations shall come into operation on 31 December, 2001. |

The Minister for Finance hereby consents to the making of the foregoing Regulations. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |

These Regulations provide for an increase of EUR 18.26 (from EUR 31.74 (£25) to EUR 50.00 (£39.38) in the income disregard for part-time workers claiming Rent or Mortgage Interest Supplement under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance scheme as announced in Budget 2002. |
||||||
The Regulations also provide for an increase from £5 to EUR 10 (£7.88) in the amount of pension income disregarded for the purposes of Rent and Mortgage Interest Supplement. |
||||||
These increases are effective from the first week in January 2002. |
