I, Michael McDowell, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, after consulting the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána and with the approval of the Government, hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 122 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (No. 20 of 2005), make the following regulations: 1. These regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations 2006. 2. Notwithstanding anything contained in - |

(a) the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations 1934 (S.R. & O. No. 146 of 1934), |
|||||||||||
(b) the Garda Síochána (Retirement) (No. 2) Regulations 1951 ( S.I. No. 335 of 1951 ), |
|||||||||||
(c) the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations 1990 ( S.I. No. 318 of 1990 ), or |
|||||||||||
(d) the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations 1996 ( S.I. No. 16 of 1996 ), |
|||||||||||
as continued in force by section 128 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, a member of the Garda Síochána who, immediately before the making of these regulations, holds the rank of Deputy Commissioner and who has not reached 60 years of age, shall retire on attaining the age of 62 years. |

The Government hereby approve of the making of the foregoing regulations. |
