I, BRENDAN SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive 2009/145/EC of 26 November 20091 , hereby make the following regulations: |

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Marketing of Seeds) (Amendment) Regulations 2010. |
||
2. The European Communities (Marketing of Seeds) Regulations 2009 ( S.I. No. 431 of 2009 ) are amended in Regulation 2 by substituting for the definition of "Commission Directive", the following- |
||
" 'Commission Directive' means Commission Directive 2008/62/EC of 20 June 2008 as amended by Commission Directive 2009/145/EC of 26 November 2009;". |

These Regulations provide for the acceptance of vegetable landraces and conservation varieties which have been traditionally grown in particular localities and regions and are threatened by genetic erosion and of vegetable varieties with no intrinsic value for commercial crop production but developed for growing under particular conditions and the marketing of seed of those landraces and varieties. |
