THE INDUSTRIAL TRIBUNALS

CASE REF: 565/11

CLAIMANT: James Patrick Corr

RESPONDENT: Sonah (Ireland) Ltd

DECISION

The claimant’s claim in respect of redundancy pay is well-founded and it is declared that the claimant is entitled to a redundancy payment of £5,021.46 from the respondent.

Constitution of Tribunal:

Chairman (sitting alone): Mr P Buggy

Appearances:

The claimant was self-represented.

The respondent has presented no response in these proceedings and was not entitled to be represented at this hearing.

REASONS

              1. I delivered my decision at the end of this hearing. I told the claimant that if there was any error in my calculations, I would correct that error in the original version of this Decision. I gave oral reasons for my decision at the end of the hearing. Accordingly, what follows is by way of summary only.

              2. Originally, these proceedings were brought against “Sonah Ireland Ltd”. I am satisfied that the correct title of the company is “Sonah (Ireland) Ltd” and the title of the respondent has been altered accordingly.

              3. I was satisfied that the claimant was entitled to be treated as having worked in the relevant entity for 10 full years and that he was aged 48 at the time of the termination of his employment.

              4. On the basis of the response which was presented in these proceedings, I am satisfied that the claimant was entitled to a redundancy entitlement amounting to £5,021.46. (At the time of the claimant’s dismissal, the statutory weekly maximum pay, in the context of redundancy payments, was £380).

5. This is a relevant decision for the purposes of the Industrial Tribunals (Interest) Order (Northern Ireland) 1990.
