HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT 1890 HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT 1890 - LONG TITLE An Act to consolidate and amend the Acts relating to Artizans and Labourers Dwellings and the Housing of the Working Classes. [18th August 1890] The Act was repealed by the Housing (NI) Order 1981 (NI3) with the exception of sections 1 and 74 and the definition of "land" in section 93 which are set out below. HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT 1890 - SECT 1 Short title of Act. 1. This Act may be cited as the Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1890. Amendment of 1882 c.38, as regards erection of dwellings. HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT 1890 - SECT 74 74.(1) The Settled Land Act, 1882, shall be amended as follows: (a)Any sale, exchange, or lease of land in pursuance of the said Act, when made for the purpose of the erection on such land of dwellings..., may be made at such price, or for such consideration, or for such rent, as having regard to the said purpose, and to all the circumstances of the case, is the best that can be reasonably obtained, notwithstanding that a higher price, consideration, or rent might have been obtained if the land were sold, exchanged, or leased for another purpose. (b)The improvements on which capital money may be expended, enumerated in section twenty-five of the said Act, and referred to in section thirty of the said Act, shall, in addition to cottages for labourers, farm servants, and artizans whether employed on the settled land or not, include any dwellings..., the building of which in the opinion of the Court is not injurious to the estate. (2) Any body corporate holding land may sell, exchange, or lease the land for the purpose of the erection of dwellings... at such price, or for such consideration, or for such rent as having regard to the said purpose and to all the circumstances of the case is the best that can reasonably be obtained, notwithstanding that a higher price, consideration, or rent might have been obtained if the land were sold, exchanged, or leased for another purpose.
