JURY LAWS AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1926 JURY LAWS AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1926 - LONG TITLE An Act to amend the Laws relating to Juries in Northern Ireland. [1st June 1926] Ss. 113 rep. by 1953 c.19 (NI) s.11 sch.2; SLR (NI) 1954; 1969 c.15 (NI) s.4(2) sch.; 1972 NI16 art.63(3) sch.19; SLR 1973; 1974 NI6 art.9(2) sch.5 JURY LAWS AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1926 - SECT 14 Imposition of fines on defaulting jurors. 14.(1) Any fine which may be imposed under section forty ... of the Act of 1871,..., in respect of non-attendance or other default on the part of a person summoned to attend on a jury, ... or inquiry, shall be so imposed if the juror at any time when called does not answer to his name, unless some reasonable excuse for his non-attendance is proved to the satisfaction of the court or other authority having power to impose such fine; and so much of the said enactments as renders it necessary for any such person to be called three times is hereby repealed. S.15 rep. by 1953 c.19 (NI) s.11 sch.2 JURY LAWS AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1926 - SECT 16 Detention of jurors in civil trials during interval for refreshment. 16. Jurors sworn in any civil trial may, in the discretion of the presiding judge, be detained during the adjournment of the court (other than an adjournment at the termination of the proceedings for the day) and be provided with reasonable refreshment during such adjournment; and the cost of such refreshment shall, if a verdict is found, be payable and taxable in like manner as sums payable under this Act to a juror for his service, and shall, if no verdict be found, be payable by the parties to the proceedings in equal shares.
