QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 - LONG TITLE An Act to make provision for the payment of additional grants to the Queen's University of Belfast, and for defraying certain expenses of the Agricultural Faculty of the said University, and to empower the governing body of the said University to borrow money. [18th December 1928] Additional grant for general purposes of Queen's University. QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 - SECT 1 1. There shall be paid out of moneys provided by Parliament to the governing body of the Queen's University of Belfast (in this Act referred to as "the University") for the general purposes of the University (a)in respect of the financial year ending on the thirty-first day of March, nineteen hundred and twenty-nine, the sum of two thousand pounds, and (b)thereafter in respect of each financial year a sum of four thousand pounds; Expenses of Agricultural Faculty in teaching and research. QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 - SECT 2 2. Whereas the governing body of the University have, upon lands belonging to the University, erected and equipped to the satisfaction of the Ministries of Finance and Agriculture a building, with laboratories, used, and to be used, solely for the teaching of applied agricultural sciences in connection with the Agricultural Faculty of the University, and for agricultural research and experimental work of the Ministry of Agriculture (so long as that Ministry may so require) and of the University: And whereas.... the Ministry of Agriculture, with the concurrence of the Ministry of Finance, has.... out of moneys provided by Parliament, recouped to the said governing body the costs arising from time to time of the subordinate staff and of the fees of certain examiners of the said Agricultural Faculty, and the cost of maintaining the buildings (including the insurance, lighting, heating and water supply thereof) and equipment in connection with the said Agricultural Faculty: And whereas it is expedient.... that provision should be made, as hereinafter in this section appearing, with respect to the payment out of moneys provided by Parliament of sums to recoup the costs arising from time to time as aforesaid: Therefore the following provisions shall have effect: ... There shall be paid, in respect of each financial year, out of moneys provided by Parliament to the governing body of the University, for defraying the cost for such year of the subordinate staff and fees of examiners, and of maintaining the buildings (including the insurance, lighting, heating and water supply thereof) and equipment in connection with the Agricultural Faculty of the University, such sums as are determined by the Ministry of Agriculture, after consultation with the Ministry of Finance, to be reasonable and necessary for those purposes and such accounts shall be kept and estimates and certificates furnished, in respect of all sums expended or proposed to be expended under this provision, as the said Ministries may determine. QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 - SECT 3 Power of governing body to borrow money. 3. The governing body of the University shall have power to borrow upon the security of any land or other property beloning to the University, for such term of years (not exceeding in any case fifty) and upon such conditions as to repayment, as the said governing body may determine in each case, such sums of money as may be certified by the said governing body to be necessary for all or any of the following purposes: (a)The restoration, improvement and extension of any house or building forming part of or connected with or belonging to the University; (b)The erection of new or additional houses or buildings upon lands belonging to the University; (c)The acquisition of lands or buildings for the purposes of the University; (d)The permanent improvement of any lands belonging to the University. QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1928 - SECT 4 Short title. 4. This Act may be cited as the Queen's University of Belfast Act (Northern Ireland), 1928.
