REDUNDANCY REBATES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1969 - LONG TITLE

An Act to reduce the rebates payable under section 40 of the
Contracts of Employment and Redundancy Payments Act (Northern Ireland)
1965.

REDUNDANCY REBATES ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1969 - SECT 1

1.(1) Schedule 6 to the principal Act (calculation of rebates)
shall, subject to the following provisions of this section, be
amended as follows, that is to say, for the words "one and
one-sixth weeks"', "two-thirds" and "one-third", where they occur in
paragraphs 2 and 9 of that Schedule, there shall be substituted
respectively the words "three-quarters of one week's", "one-half" and
"one-quarter", and for the words "seven-ninths", where they occur in
paragraphs 3 and 12 of that Schedule, there shall be substituted
the words "one-half".

(2) Subsection (1) shall not have effect in relation to a rebate
payable in respect of the whole or part of a redundancy payment,
if in the case of that redundancy payment the relevant date (in
accordance with section 13(4), section 14(2) or section 16(2) of the
principal Act, as the case may be) is a date earlier than the
date on which subsection (1) comes into operation.

(3) Subsection (1) shall not have effect

(a)in relation to a rebate payable in respect of a payment made by
an employer under such an agreement as is mentioned in paragraph
(b) of subsection (1) of section 40 of the principal Act, or

(b)in relation to a rebate payable in respect of a payment made by
an employer by virtue of an award made in relation to an agreement
as mentioned in paragraph (c) of that subsection,

(4) In this section "the principal Act" means the Contracts of
Employment and Redundancy Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 1965,
"redundancy payment" has the meaning assigned to it by section 11
of that Act, "rebate" has the same meaning as in section 40 of
that Act and "employer" and "employee" have the meanings assigned to
them by section 63(3) of that Act.

Short title and citation.

2.(1) This Act may be cited as the Redundancy Rebates Act (Northern
Ireland) 1969.

(2) The principal Act (except Part I thereof and Schedules 1 and 2
thereto) and this Act may be cited together as the Redundancy
Payments Acts (Northern Ireland) 1965 and 1969.
