PRISONS AND YOUNG OFFENDERS

Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 (Commencement) Order 2001

  Made 26th September 2001 

The Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Article 1(2) of The Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001[1], hereby makes the following Order: - 

Citation
     1. This Order may be cited as The Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 (Commencement) Order 2001.

Appointed Day
    
2. The appointed day for the coming into operation of The Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 shall be 8th October 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)


This Order brings into operation on 8th October 2001 The Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001 which provides for the release and recall of persons serving a sentence of life imprisonment or detention during the pleasure of the Secretary of State.
