HEALTH AND PERSONAL SOCIAL SERVICES

The Health and Personal Social Services (2002 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002

  Made 4th October 2002 

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 4 of the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2002[1], and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation
     1. This Order may be cited as the Health and Personal Social Services (2002 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2002.

Appointed Day
    
2. 7th October 2002 is the appointed day for the coming into operation of the provisions of section 1 and 2 (with the Schedule) of the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2002.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)


This Order brings into operation on 7th October 2002 those provisions of the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2002 ("the Act") which are required to be commenced.

Section 1 of the Act provides that the cost of nursing care for people in nursing homes will not be recoverable from the resident.

Section 2 (with the Schedule) of the Act provides for the establishment of the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC).
