The Lord Chancellor makes the following Rules in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 83(1) and 83(4) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(1) after consultation with the Lord Chief Justice.
1.–(1) These Rules may be cited as the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Amendment) Rules (Northern Ireland) 2010 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2010.
2. The Mental Health Review Tribunal (Northern Ireland) Rules 1986(2) shall be amended as follows.
3. In rule 8(3) for "the Lord Chancellor" substitute "the chairman after consulting the Lord Chancellor".

These Rules amend the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Northern Ireland) Rules 1986 (SR 1986/193) so as to allow the chairman of the Mental Health Review Tribunal to approve legal members to serve as president of the tribunal for the consideration of applications relating to restricted patients after consulting the Lord Chancellor.
