Summary: The complainant requested information from Bedfordshire Police concerning its investigation into allegations that former MEP Tom Wise and his researcher, Lindsay Jenkins, had misused parliamentary allowances. Mr Wise eventually pleaded guilty to charges of false accounting and money laundering; Ms Jenkins was acquitted. Bedfordshire Police provided the complainant with some information but argued that the remainder of the information was exempt from disclosure on the basis of section 30(1)(a)(i) of the Act and that in all of the circumstances of the case the public interest favoured maintaining the exemption. The Commissioner has concluded that Bedfordshire Police was entitled to withhold the remaining information on this basis.
