Summary
The application concerns a computer based system and method for estimating the cost of moving fuel from one location to another using vehicles and associated personnel and which allows a user to assess the impact of adjusting the resources used. The claims define a system for forming a new vehicle which, in the context of the application, is a system that allows an operator to specify design characteristics that a new vehicle should possess to fulfil a particular fuel delivery task and the creation of an associated data file. The Applicant argued that the contribution was technical because the system also provided a warning function that was equivalent to the monitoring and alarm features of the invention in Protecting Kids the World Over. The Hearing Officer applied the four step Aerotel test, and the AT&T signposts and the reasoning in PKTWO and decided that the contribution relates solely to a method for doing business and a program for a computer as such. The application was refused under section 18(3).
