9th December 1976
The Secretary of State and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 1(6) of the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following order:-
1.-(1) This order may be cited as the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1976.
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 applies for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
2. The date appointed for the coming into force of the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976 shall, subject to Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act, be 1st January 1977.

This Order appoints 1st January 1977 as the operative date for the coming into force of the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976, but this is subject to Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act.
Under Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act the operation of the Act is postponed in relation to persons employed in forestry, or formerly employed in forestry, either as whole-time workers or as permit workers and their successors until such date (after 1st January 1977) as may be appointed by order made by the Secretary of State and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food acting jointly.
