The Secretary of State, after consulting with the organisations referred to in section 7(2) of the Fishing Vessels (Safety Provisions) Act 1970, in exercise of powers conferred by section 1(1) and 2(1) of that Act and section 427 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 as substituted by section 2 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 and amended by section 9 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1964 and now vested in him(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Rules:-
1. These Rules may be cited as the Fishing Vessels (Safety Provisions) (Amendment) Rules 1976 and shall come into operation on 15th April 1976.
2. The Fishing Vessels (Safety Provisions) Rules 1975(2), as amended(3), shall be further amended as follows:
(1) In Rule 1(4)(c)(ii) after "Sea Fish Industry Act 1970" and in Rule 124 after "Sea Fish Industry Act 1970" respectively there shall be inserted "the Fishing Vessels (Grants) Act (Northern Ireland) 1967 or the Development Loans (Agriculture and Fisheries) Act (Northern Ireland) 1968."
(2) In Rule 14(2) for the equation " No math image to display
there shall be substituted the equation:

(3) In Rule 36(7)(a) for "shall extend in readily accessible positions" there shall be substituted "shall extend to readily accessible positions";
(4) In Rule 56(3) for "shall be formed of non-combustible B Class divisions extending from deck to deck." there shall be substituted "shall extend from deck to deck and shall be constructed of steel, other equivalent material, or non-combustible material capable of meeting a B.15 standard.";
(5) In Rule 56(4) for "or non-combustible B Class divisions," there shall be substituted "or non-combustible material capable of meeting a B.15 standard,";
(6) In Rule 63(4) in the final sentence, for "ship" there shall be substituted "vessel";
(7) In Rule 77(1)(b)(iii) "when the vessel is upright or listed up to 15° in either direction" shall be deleted;
(8) In Schedule 13 Part II sub-paragraph (d) for "2182 MHz" there shall be substituted "2182 kHz".

These Rules further amend the Merchant Shipping (Fishing Vessels) (Safety Provisions) Rules 1975 by making a number of minor corrections and by making it clear that in Rule 56 (structural fire protection) the bulkheads of corridors serving accommodation spaces and the enclosures of interior stairways serving accommodation spaces, service spaces or control stations, shall be formed of non-combustible material capable of meeting a B. 15 standard fire test.
