Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 1 of the European Communities Act 1972 and has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1(3) of the European Communities Act 1972 or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-
1. This Order may be cited as the European Communities (Definition of Treaties) (No. 4) Order 1978. It shall come into operation in respect of the treaty specified in the Schedule to this Order on the date on which the treaty enters into force for the United Kingdom. This date will be notified in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes.
2. The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3. The treaty specified in the Schedule to this Order is to be regarded as a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972.

Act concerning the Election of the Representatives of the Assembly by Direct Universal Suffrage, signed at Brussels, 20 September 1976, taken with the Decision of the Council of the European Communities of 20 September 1976 to which it is annexed (Cmnd. 6623).
This Order declares the treaty mentioned in the Schedule to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972.
