The Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of powers conferred on him by section 12 of, and paragraphs 10 and 12 of Schedule 5 to, the National Health Service Act 1977(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation, in accordance with paragraph 11(1) of the said Schedule, with bodies recognised by him as representing persons who are likely to be affected by the regulations, hereby makes the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the Health Service Supply Council (Abolition) Regulations 1985 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1986.
2. The Health Service Supply Council Regulations 1980, the Health Service Supply Council (Amendment) Regulations 1982 and paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the National Health Service (Regional and District Health Authorities: Membership and Procedure) Regulations 1983 are hereby revoked.
3. Any officer employed by the Health Service Supply Council immediately before 1st January 1986 shall on that date be transferred to the employment of the South Western Regional Health Authority and the contract of employment between such officer and the Health Service Supply Council shall be modified so as to substitute as the employer the South Western Regional Health Authority.

These regulations are made consequent upon the Health Service Supply Council (Abolition) Order 1985 which abolishes the Health Service Supply Council, a special health authority constituted under the National Health Service Act 1977. They revoke the regulations under which the membership and procedure of, and appointment of officers to, that authority were provided for and make provision for the transfer of staff from that authority to the South Western Regional Health Authority upon abolition.
paragraph 10 was amended by the Health Services Act 1980 (c.53), Schedule 1, paragraph 80(3), the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983 (c.41), section 15(b) and Schedule 6, paragraph 3, the Health and Social Security Act 1984 (c.48), Schedule 3, paragraph 14 and Schedule 8, Part I and S.I. 1985/39, Article 7(22)(a); and paragraph 12 was amended by S.I. 1985/39, Article 7(22)(b).
