(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Regulations 1980 by increasing by an average of 7.4 per cent the charges payable for the supply under the National Health Service of drugs and appliances. The amount of each increase in respect of drugs and various appliances is shown in Schedule 1 to these Regulations. In particular, the standard prescription charge in respect of the supply of a drug or appliance (other than certain specified appliances) by a chemist as part of pharmaceutical services is increased from £2.20 to £2.40 and a corresponding increase is made in respect of supply by doctors and to outpatients.
Regulation 4 of these Regulations revokes regulations which prescribed the amounts of charges in previous years but which are now superseded.
1977 c. 49; for the definitions of"prescribed"and"regulations"see section 128(1); section 83(a) was amended by the Health Services Act 1980 (c. 53), Schedule 1, paragraph 64.
