Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Scotland) Regulations 1982 ( "the principal regulations") by increasing, by an average of 9.6% for in-patients and 6.1% for out-patients, the sums prescribed in Schedules 2 and 3 to the principal regulations as charges to certain overseas visitors for services forming part of the health service. They also alter at item 2 of Schedule 3 to the principal regulations the classification of day cases so as to draw a distinction between those receiving treatment on one day only and those who attend on more than one day as part of a course of regular treatment.

These Regulations also revoke earlier amending regulations which increased prescribed sums.

(1)

1978 c. 29; section 108(1) contains a definition of "prescribed" relevant to the exercise of the statutory powers under which these Regulations are made.

(2)

S.I. 1982/898; relevant amending instruments are S.I. 1986/516 and 924.

(3)

Schedule 2 was last substituted by S.I. 1986/516.

(4)

Schedule 3 was last substituted by S.I. 1986/516 and amended by S.I. 1986/924.

(5)

S.I. 1985/383.
