The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1 of the Ministers of the Crown Act 1975(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Transfer of Functions (British Museum (Natural History)) Order 1988.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 25th November 1988.
2.-(1) There are hereby transferred to the Lord President of the Council the functions of the Secretary of State under-
(a)section 8(2)(b) of the British Museum Act 1963(2) (appointment of one of the trustees); and
(b)section 10(2) of that Act with respect to the amendment of Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act (authorised repositories).
(2) Accordingly-
(a)in section 8(2)(b) of that Act, for the words from "by" to "on" there shall be substituted the words "by the Lord President of the Council on"; and
(b)in section 10(2) of that Act, for the words from the beginning to "may" there shall be substituted the words "The Lord President of the Council may".
(3) This Order shall not affect the validity of anything done (or having effect as if done) by or in relation to the Secretary of State before the coming into force of this Order.

This Order transfers to the Lord President of the Council the power under section 8(2)(b) of the British Museum Act 1963 to appoint one of the Natural History Trustees, and the power under section 10(2) to amend Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act, presently exercised by the Secretary of State. The buildings for the time being described in Part II of that Schedule are the authorised repositories for the collections of the British Museum (Natural History).
