The Merchant Shipping (Seamen's Wages and Accounts) (Fishing Vessels) (Amendment) Regulations 1988

The Secretary of State, after consulting with the organisations referred to in section 99(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970(1), in exercise of powers conferred by section 9 of that Act and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Seamen's Wages and Accounts) (Fishing Vessels) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 26th December 1988.

2. The Merchant Shipping (Seamen's Wages and Accounts) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1972(3) shall be amended by substituting, in regulation 8, in both places, "£200" for "£50".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend The Merchant Shipping (Seamen's Wages and Accounts) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1972 so as to increase from £50 to £200 the maximum contribution that an employer can recover from a fisherman who is in breach of his contractual obligations.
