The Education (Abolition of Corporal Punishment) (Independent Schools) (Amendment) Regulations 1989

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 47(5)(a)(iii) of the Education (No. 2) Act 1986(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Science, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:-�

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Abolition of Corporal Punishment) (Independent Schools) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 1st September 1989.

2. After paragraph (b) of regulation 2 of the Education (Abolition of Corporal Punishment) (Independent Schools) Regulations 1987(2), there shall be added the following paragraphs-�

"(c)a city technology college which is, for the time being, assisted by a Minister of the Crown, and

(d)a city college for the technology of the arts, which is, for the time being, so assisted."

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

The Education (Abolition of Corporal Punishment) (Independent Schools) Regulations 1987 prescribe classes of independent schools where corporal punishment may not be lawfully administered to pupils. The present Regulations amend those 1987 Regulations by adding to the classes prescribed by those Regulations two further classes of independent schools, namely city technology colleges which are, for the time being, assisted by a Minister of the Crown and city colleges for the technology of the arts which are, for the time being, so assisted.
