The Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No.8) Order 1989

Made

30th October 1989

The Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 26(1) of the Health and Medicines Act 1988((1)) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No.8) Order 1989.

Appointed day

2. 31st October 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Health and Medicines Act 1988:-

(a)in section 8 (retirement of practitioners)-

(i)in paragraph (a) of subsection (1) the words "or section 19 of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978" ;

(ii)in subsection (2) the words "(a) or" in so far as they have effect for the purposes of any list maintained under section 19 of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978((2));

(b)section 25(1) (consequential amendments) so far as it relates to paragraph 10 of Schedule 2, and to paragraph 9 of that Schedule to the extent that it has effect for the purposes of that paragraph.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 31st October 1989 the provisions of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 for which days for coming into force have not already been appointed.

The provisions thus brought into force relate to the retirement of medical practitioners in Scotland.
