The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 56(1) and (2) of the Finance Act 1973(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These regulations may be cited as the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 30th April 1989.
2. The Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Fees) Regulations 1988(2) are hereby amended as follows-�
(a)in regulation 3(2), for "£24.20" there shall be substituted "£26.20", and the words from "except that" to the end shall be omitted;
(b)in paragraph (a) of Schedule 2, for "£41.20" there shall be substituted "£44.60"; and
(c)in paragraph 1(1)(a) of Schedule 3, for "£34.40", "£28.00" and "£10.40" there shall be substituted respectively "£37.20", "£30.20" and "£11.20".

These Regulations increase the fee payable in connection with services provided by the Department of Trade and Industry in respect of EEC initial verification of all classes of alcoholometers and alcohol hydrometers from £24.20 to £26.20, and abolish the fee for batches of 10 or more applications. They also increase the fees for EEC pattern approval as follows: for examiner staff time from £34.40 per hour to £37.20 per hour, for equipment test unit staff time from £28.00 per hour to £30.20 per hour and for use of an environmental testing chamber from £10.40 per hour to £11.20 per hour.
