The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 124(3) of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1990.
2. Section 125(7) of, and Schedule 20 to, the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990, so far as they provide for or relate to the repeal of section 53 of the Administration of Justice Act 1956(2), shall come into force on 1st November 1990.

This Order brings into force on 1st November 1990 a provision in the repeals schedule of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990. This provision is section 53 of the Administration of Justice Act 1956 which provides that only certain barristers or solicitors are eligible for appointment as Chief Land Registrar or as registrar or assistant registrar in the Land Registry.
