Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations revoke and replace the Education (Grants for Training of Teachers and Community Education Workers) (Scotland) Regulations 1989. They provide for the payment to education authorities of grants in respect of teachers attending courses of in-service training in subject areas approved by the Secretary of State. (Previous regulations specifically listed the subject areas in respect of which grant might be paid). They also provide for grants to be paid in respect of teachers attending seminars organised by the Scottish Committee for Staff Development in Education. "Teacher" is defined to include educational psychologists.

The Regulations also make provision for the payment of grants to local authorities in respect of the attendance of community education workers at these courses and provide a definition of "community education worker".
