The Lords of Council and Session, under and by virtue of the powers conferred on them by section 10 of the Public Records (Scotland) Act 1937(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and with the approval of the Treasury, do hereby enact and declare:

Citation and commencement

1.-(1) This Act of Sederunt may be cited as the Act of Sederunt (Fees in the Scottish Record Office) 1990 and shall come into force on 1st February 1990.

(2) This Act of Sederunt shall be inserted in the Books of Sederunt.

Fees in the Scottish Record Office

2. The fees payable in the Scottish Record Office in respect of the matters specified in column 1 of the Table of Fees in the Schedule to this Act of Sederunt shall be the fees specified in relation to these matters in column 2 of that Table and are so payable from the date this Act of Sederunt comes into force.

Revocation

3. The Act of Sederunt (Amendment of Fees in the Scottish Record Office) 1980(2) and the Act of Sederunt (Amendment of Fees in the Scottish Record Office) 1985(3) are hereby revoked.

Notes:

  • For persons unable to make a personal search in records the Scottish Record Office may conduct searches over such periods and subject to such conditions as the Keeper of the Records of Scotland may prescribe for particular classes of records. The Keeper has discretion to reduce or waive the charge in appropriate cases and reserves the right to decline searches.

  • The Keeper may require a deposit of a sum not exceeding £30 in the case of requests for estimates of large scale copying.

Note: The handling charge is remitted or reduced for orders by an electrostatic process or similar methods, placed personally in the Search Rooms with the documents to be copied clearly identified and where an inspection fee has already been incurred or remitted (but a modified charge will apply where such copies are supplied on credit terms). The handling charge may also be remitted or reduced at the discretion of the Keeper of the Records of Scotland, e.g. for approved educational or historical purposes. Additions may be made for difficult work or orders requiring special attention. Postage and packing will be charged additionally according to current costs.

Note: A sum not exceeding £88 per day or £14 per hour may be applied at the discretio-� n of the Keeper of the Records of Scotland where an officer of the Scottish Record Office attends with records for any purpose approved by the Keeper. Travelling expenses may also be charged in the case of attendance outside the Scottish Record Office.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Act of Sederunt)

This Act of Sederunt makes provision for an increase in most fees chargeable by the Scottish Record Office of 50 per cent. overall. The introduction of specification of size in electrostatic prints results in a reduction in one instance (see Schedule, Part III, item 1(2)(a)(i)). New fees are included for prints from microfiche and duplicate copies of existing microfiche.

The Act of Sederunt (Amendment of Fees in the Scottish Record Office) 1980 and the Act of Sederunt (Amendment of Fees in the Scottish Record Office) 1985 are revoked.
