The Secretary of State for Transport, being a Minister designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to the regulation of the type, description, construction or equipment of vehicles, and of components of vehicles, and in particular any vehicle type approval scheme, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on 1st January 1992.
2.-(1) Part 1 of Schedule 2 to the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) Regulations 1980(3) is hereby amended as follows.
(2) In column 2, in item 11A, there is added-�
"or 88/77/EEC as amended by 91/542/EEC | 1 October 1991 | O.J. L295, 25.10.91, p. 1". |

1. These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) Regula tions 1980 so that the type approval requirements relating to the measures to be taken against the emission of gaseous and particulate pollutants from diesel engines for use in vehicles are, as an alternative to the existing requirements, the requirements of Council Directive 88/77/EEC as amended by Council Directive 91/542/EEC.
2. Copies of the Directives referred to in these Regulations and this note may be obtained from Her Majesty's Stationery Office. Details of the Directives are set out in the Table below:
