The Paisley College of Technology Scheme (Amendment) Regulations 1992

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 77(1) and (4) of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980((1)) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Paisley College of Technology Scheme (Amendment) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 27th May 1992.

Paisley College of Technology

2. For section 25 of the Paisley College of Technology Scheme (1954)((2)) there shall be substituted the following section:-

"(1) The governing body shall provide, maintain, furnish, equip and administer Paisley College of Technology for education and instruction in-

(a)scientific and technological subjects;

(b)business studies;

(c)social sciences

(2) Without prejudice to the generality of their powers under the foregoing sub-section the governing body may-

(a)provide, equip, maintain, administer and conduct any facilities for sports, social and recreational purposes, libraries and reading rooms, and residential accommodation for students and members of staff of the College;

(b)award diplomas and certificates under their common seal upon such conditions and under such rules as they may make;

(c)undertake, or to assist such bodies and persons as may be approved by them to undertake, research and educational experiments related to the objects of the College;

(d)provide consultancy services, laboratory services or similar services to such bodies and persons as they may approve provided that such services shall be related to the objects of the College and provided that charges shall be made for such services which at least cover the full cost to the College of their provision; and

(e)arrange for the affiliation of the College with, or the affiliation to the College of, or to enter into arrangements or co-operate with, any educational institution, association or other body for purposes connected with the functions of the governing body, upon such terms and conditions as may be arranged.

(3) Subject to the provisions of this scheme the governing body shall have all the rights, powers and privileges necessary or expedient to enable them to carry this provision into effect.".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations expand the purposes for which the governing body are to maintain Paisley College of Technology to cover education and instruction in technology and science, business studies and social sciences and related subjects and also clarify the powers of the governing body.

The 1954 Scheme was framed and confirmed by the Secretary of State and approved by Order in Council of 19th October 1954 under section 123 of the Education (Scotland) Act 1946 (c. 72); relevant amendments are made by S.I. 1973/1811 and 1988/1715.
