The Academic Awards and Distinctions (Scotland) Order of Council 1992

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall,

By the Lords of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council

Their Lordships, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by sections 48(1) and 60 of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992((1)) and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Scotland) Order of Council 1992 and shall come into force on 1st September 1992.

(2) In this Order "the Act" means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992.

Competence to grant academic awards and distinctions

2.-(1) The following institutions are specified as competent to grant all such degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards or distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of sub sections 2 and 3 of section 48 of the Act:-

(a)Dundee Institute of Technology;

(b)Glasgow Polytechnic;

(c)Napier Polytechnic of Edinburgh;

(d)Paisley College of Technology; and

(e)The Robert Gordon Institute of Technology.

(2) In the event that the name of any institution specified in paragraph (1) above is changed under section 49 of the Act, or under any other power, the competence to grant the awards and distinctions arising from that specification shall continue to apply to that institution as re-named.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order specifies Dundee Institute of Technology, Glasgow Polytechnic, Napier Polytechnic of Edinburgh, Paisley College of Technology and the Robert Gordon Institute of Technology as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions.
