1. This Order shall come into force on 30th October 1992 and may be cited as the A4 Trunk Road (Avonmouth Relief Road) Order 1992.
2. The new highway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along the routes described in Schedule 1 to this Order shall become a trunk road as from the date when this Order comes into force.
3. The centre line of the new trunk road is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.
4. The Secretary of State directs as respects any part of a highway which crosses the route of the new trunk road that-
(a)where the highway is a highway maintainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority, and
(b)where the highway is not a highway so maintainable and is not maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in question,
until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the new trunk road is opened for traffic.
5. The highways described in Schedule 2 to this Order shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.
6. In this Order-
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(i) "the deposited plan" | means the plan numbered HA10/2/SWM82 marked "The A4 Trunk Road (Avonmouth Relief Road) Order 1992" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; |
(ii) "the new trunk road" | means the highway mentioned in article 2 of this Order. |

The new highway in the City of Bristol in the County of Avon given the reference letter "A" on the deposited plan from a point on the southern boundary of Avonmouth Way 250 metres west of its junction with First Way, in a south easterly direction for a distance of 180 metres, to and including a roundabout linking with the special roads described in paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Schedule to the M5 Motorway (Junction 18 and Avonmouth Relief Road) (Slip Roads, Special Roads) Scheme 1992, which are to be constructed by the Secretary of State pursuant to that scheme.
The highways to become trunk roads are at Avonmouth, in the City of Bristol in the County of Avon.
1. The highways given the reference letter "B" on the deposited plan, comprising-
King Road Avenue, from a point 60 metres west of its junction with the A403 St Andrews Road eastwards for a distance of 50 metres,
A403 St Andrews Road, at its junction with Avonmouth Way and King Road Avenue, and
Avonmouth Way, from its junction with the A403 St Andrews Road eastwards to a point 250 metres west of its junction with First Way.
2. The highway given the reference letter "C" on the deposited plan, comprising-
The existing roundabout at the junction of the A4 Portway and the B4054 Avonmouth Road, and
The A4 Portway, from the southern side of that roundabout southwards for a distance of 80 metres.
