The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretaries of State respectively concerned with the sea fishing industry in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 5(1), 20(1) and 22(2)(a) of the Sea Fish (Conservation) Act 1967(1)and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Bass (Specified Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) (Variation) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 29th December 1992.
2. In column 1 of the Schedule to the Bass (Specified Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) Order 1990(2)for the words "3 cables" in the description of the Fawley Power Station area there shall be substituted the words "556 metres".
In Witness whereof the Official Seal of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is hereunto affixed on 30th November 1992.

This Order varies the Bass (Specified Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) Order 1990 ("the principal Order") by substituting for the imperial measurement of 3 cables in the description of the Fawley Power Station area in column 1 of the Schedule to that Order the metric measurement of 556 metres being the nearest suitable metric equivalent measurement. The Order also gives effect to Council Directive 80/181/EEC (OJ No. L39, 15.2.80, p.40) on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to units of measurement, as amended by Council Directives 85/1/EEC (OJ No. L2, 3.1.85, p.11) and 89/617/EEC (OJ No. L357, 7.12.89, p.28), insofar as that Directive affects the principal Order.
1967 c. 84; section 5(1) was substituted by section 22(1) of the Fisheries Act 1981 (c. 29); section 22(2)(a) was amended by sections 19(2)(d) and 45(b) of the Fisheries Act 1981.
