The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the European Communities (Designation) (No. 5) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 8th January 1993.
2. For the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 the Friendly Societies Commission is hereby designated in relation to the authorisation of the carrying on by friendly societies of insurance business and the regulation of such business and its conduct and in relation to anything supplemental or incidental to such matters.

This is a further Order in the series of Orders designating the Ministers who, and the departments which, may exercise powers to make regulations conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 and specifying the matters in relation to which these powers may be exercised. The Friendly Societies Commission established under section 1 of the Friendly Societies Act 1992 is designated in relation to the matters specified in the Order.
